This section will mainly focus on Architecture and Engineering, which is related to my current civil engineering major. I have always been fascinated by tall buildings, especially those designed in the bigger Dutch cities like Amsterdam and Utrecht. I love the way buildings and bridges can tell us a story about history by the way they were built an constructed. It is also a way to express the personality of its designer or owner, which can be amazingly beautiful to explore and research.
Because of my life in the Western and Southern part of the Netherlands as well as my life in America, I have seen a variety of architecture and structural design. Some were stunning, others a little less exciting, but all in different qualities and shapes. When I talked to my former Study Association about those international differences in architecture and engineering, I have been asked by a member of the board to write about it. Cheops publishes their own magazine which is called the Chepos. This Chepos has an online international section too where students studying abroad publish blogs about different typologies in different countries, different education systems and different cultures. Since I already have my own Lifestyle and Travel blog, I will mainly try to focus on the differences in architecture and education systems to not repeat myself. In addition, it is exciting to announce that this blog will be in English so other (international) students can read about all those interesting differences too!
Furthermore, I was selected for one of Russ College's most visible programs, the Karol A. and Jo Ondick Engineering Ambassadors Program. My fellow ambassadors and I represent all engineering programs and have the opportunity to lead student recruitment tours, promote the college to parents, alumni and friends of the college, and network with distinguished alumni at special events. Every month, I write about my experience as an Ohio University engineering student which will be posted on my blog as well as the university's blog.
Hence, this topic will be sort of a combination of lifestyle and traveling, since I would love to write about foreign cities and its aesthetics & culture in English as well as in Dutch.
Enjoy!
